Ms. Estrada’s Philosophy of Education: I believe the final goal of education should be to help students develop into virtuous citizens with strong values who positively contribute to their communities. With a strong education, students can influence their future and those around them. I believe educating the mind increases its potential. Education is discovery. Learning is done by doing, not just listening and seeing. The teacher’s role is to guide students to discover. Educational experiences should focus on creating opportunities for self-direction and self-actualization. By creating a participatory role for students, students are empowered to be their best selves. A growth mindset must be developed in students so they can continue being lifelong learners. As a member of the Cristo Rey Dallas team, I have put this into practice by incorporating lessons where students engage, explore, explain through class discussion and elaborate on content learned. They are allowed to make mistakes, learn from them together with the support of their peers and teacher and move forward to become their best selves. I myself continue learning from fellow teachers, have grown from my mistakes and continue to grow as I pursue becoming the best teacher for my students. I hope my students find themselves becoming life long learners in pursuit of service towards their community as well in whatever field their dreams take them.
