Position Summary
The Cristo Rey Dallas Athletic Director oversees all aspects of the Athletic Department and competitive Fine Arts. This includes hiring, training, and supervising the coaching staff, collaborating with student athletes and families, monitoring and allocating the budget, managing the logistics of competitions, and teaching PE one day each week. This position will be for SY 2023-2024 and will begin in July 2023.
What You’ll Do
Department Leadership
- Uphold the mission of the athletic program and represent the department to stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, job partners, and donors.
- Set and pursue goals related to the growth and development of the athletic department. Collaborate with school leadership to achieve both athletic and academic goals.
- Create systems to consistently seek and implement feedback from athletes, families, and coaches.
- Hire and train coaches to develop their programs in line with the mission and vision of CRD Athletics. Teach coaches how to instruct through a culturally relevant lens for predominantly first generation, low-income students.
- Maintain and uphold an athletics handbook that includes all protocols relevant to the Athletic Department.
- Manage the budget of the Athletics Department and oversee payment of all employees and independent contractors.
- Collaborate with TAPPS leadership and facilitate relationships among TAPPS schools, attend district meetings, and serve the primary point of contact for scheduling district games.
Logistics
- Oversee all procedures related to athletic and academic eligibility such as physicals, grade checks, coaching certifications. Ensure that such procedures are aligned with the mission of CRD and in compliance with TAPPS regulations.
- Arrange logistics for all competitions including arranging referees, athletic trainers, scorekeepers, game administrators, ticket sales, transportation and all other necessary staff.
- Establish routines and traditions to reward students who uphold values of the Athletic Department.
- Coordinate the creation of a clear athletics online presence and oversee athletics social media.
- Maintain inventory of athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Manage proper use of athletic facilities and equipment including the Weight Room, Nexbank Gym, and Stephens Family Field.
Academics
- Teach Physical Education classes one day per week.
- Oversee the PE Curriculum and ensure students receive their PE credit as required by the state.
- Other duties as assigned by academic leadership.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s Degree is required, Master’s Degree preferred
- 3-5 years of coaching experience required, teaching experience highly preferred
- Weightlifting experience and ability to teach basic lifts highly preferred
- Administrative experience or experience with systems of restorative justice preferred
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Passionate about our mission and growing programs
- Available for flexible hours and late nights when hosting home games
- Exhibit interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
