Overview:

Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep is a Catholic, college preparatory school for students from households of low to moderate income. Cristo Rey Dallas nurtures and challenges young women and men of all faiths to recognize and realize their full potential as they grow to love God, respect others and serve their community. Each student participates in the Corporate Work Study Program which offers a weekly work study experience for all four years.

We are seeking a dedicated, intellectually curious and mission driven individual who is open to growth and wants to be part of our community. They will have the unique opportunity to help develop one of Dallas’s most promising educational options for young men and women from families with low to moderate income. Your attention to detail allows you to execute on your duties quickly, efficiently, and accurately to provide the support needed to other departments and stakeholders.

 
Anticipated Start Date:

January 3, 2023

Purpose:

As a member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance reports to the President and will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the school. This includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, budgeting, legal, human resources, and risk management.

Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Fiscal and Business Office Responsibilities: 

  • Sets accounting policies and procedures within the guidelines of generally accepted accounting policies and current tax regulations. 
  • Updates Accounting Policies and Procedures manual as needed to continue implementation of internal controls and best practices. 
  • Oversees the business operations of the school within the framework of school policy.
  • Supervises the finance office staff and all business and accounting functions. 
  • Oversees accounts receivable process, tuition collections and business partner payments for our Corporate Work Study Program.
  • Prepares and oversees the current year and five-year operating and capital expenditures budgets. 
  • Works successfully with the leadership team in completing the annual and five-year budgets. Submits final budget for review to the Finance Committee before the approval of the Board of Directors. 
  • Responsible for all accounting functions including month-end and year-end close procedures, filing 990 tax returns, pledge balance and contribution revenue reconciliations, fixed asset and monthly financial statement reports.
  • Monitors cash flows; verifies weekly check runs and other check processing. 
  • Reviews school contracts for compliance and financial requirements. 
  • Sets accounting policies and tax compliance requirements with the Development Office within the framework of the school philosophy, policies, and current tax laws. 
  • Acts as liaison to the Board of Directors on financial matters; reports current accounts status at every Finance Committee meeting throughout the year.
  • Oversees investments within guidelines of investment and banking policies of the School. 
  • Tracks purchases made related to all restricted grant funding and meets regularly with the Development Department regarding the status of grant spending. 
  • Coordinates annual audit preparation. Performs final review of financial statements and presents audited statements before the Board of Directors. 

Human Resources: 

  • Responsible for oversight, review and approval of bi-monthly payroll. Communicates regularly with employees with regards to changes or updates. 
  • Manages relationship with our HR Shared Services Business partner from the Cristo Rey Network and works together to set HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping all information confidential. 
  • Reviews pension and benefit plans on a regular basis with the President to determine attractiveness and economic practicality of benefits package. 
  • Negotiates all employee benefits and Open Enrollment Process. Responsible for on-going education and communication with employees regarding their benefits. 
  • Responsible for all personnel files, policies and the annual updating of employee handbook. 
  • Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on legal obligations regarding employees and best practice in all areas of finance and employment. 

Risk management: 

  • Monitors and oversees insurance needs and issues for the school. In consultation with the school’s insurance provider, determines sufficiency of property and liability coverage. 
  • Conducts due diligence on Board proposals and works with School Legal Counsel to negotiate contracts.
  • Responsible for compliance with document retention policy adopted by the Board of Directors

Other: 

  • Attends workshops and conferences to keep up-to-date with current accounting developments and tax laws.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Strong written and communication skills; detail oriented; team player; ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Relentless focus on results and a high level of personal accountability.
  • Adept at building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Cristo Rey Network and model.
  • Not for Profit accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Suites.
  • Understand and support the mission of Cristo Rey Dallas as a private, independent, Catholic school under the endorsement of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

  • Full-time, year-round position with competitive salary, benefits, and paid vacation.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly interact with students, parents, staff and visitors.
  • COVID Vaccine strongly recommended.
  • Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
