Dear CRD Students and Families,

This past Friday, April 1st we opened up our doors once again to our families for a “Coffee with the Principal”.  We acknowledge that with the pandemic, we have been somewhat isolated and lacking in personal contact.  Our goal in the coming months is to renew that sense of belonging and family partnership at CRD that was present before the pandemic.
 
During our parent meeting we brainstormed ideas on how to create more volunteering opportunities, build community among all families at CRD, and revive our campus landscaping with flowers and plants.
 
In the coming weeks, we will have a series of events to continue the dialogue with families and start tackling some of these initial goals. Below are some dates to note:
 
  • Thursday, April 14th:  Volunteer opportunity in the cafeteria with Chef Juan.  Please contact the school directly to sign up.
  • Thursday, April 21st: Coffee with the Principal, 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27th:  Welcome Dinner for Dr. Walsh, President of CRD, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  
  • Friday, May 20th:  BBQ and Family Get Together from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 28th:  Spring Landscaping at CRD from 8 a.m. to noon.
 
Separate invitations will follow for each event, but for now please feel free to call Mrs. Garza or Mrs. Romero for more details.
 
Finally, and most importantly, this Lent season we have asked our students to reflect on personal and community renewal, as it leads us to the paschal mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  As we get ready to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, we will do well to reflect on Saint Paul’s exhortation to the Galatians: “Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up. So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all” (Gal 6:9-10).  As a CRD community, we remain committed to doing good, spreading love, and renewing our faith through the gift of serving others.

Estimados estudiantes y familias de CRD, 
 
El pasado viernes 1 de abril abrimos nuestras puertas una vez más a nuestras familias para un “Café con la Directora”. Reconocemos que con la pandemia hemos estado algo aislados y faltos de contacto personal. Nuestro objetivo en los próximos meses es renovar ese sentido de pertenencia y sociedad familiar en CRD que estaba presente antes de la pandemia.
 
Durante nuestra reunión de padres, presentamos ideas sobre cómo crear más oportunidades de voluntariado, construir una comunidad entre todas las familias en CRD y revivir el paisaje de nuestro campus con flores y plantas.
 
En las próximas semanas, tendremos una serie de eventos para continuar el diálogo con las familias y comenzar a abordar algunos de estos objetivos iniciales. A continuación se presentan algunas fechas a tener en cuenta.
 
  • Jueves 21 de abril: Café con el Director, 3-4 p.m.
  • Miércoles 27 de abril: cena de bienvenida para el Dr. Walsh, presidente de CRD, de 5:30 p. m. a 6:30 p. m.
  • Viernes 20 de mayo: barbacoa y reunión familiar de 5:30 p. m. a 7:30 p. m.
  • Sábado 28 de mayo: Paisajismo de primavera en CRD de 8 a. m. al mediodía

Seguirán invitaciones separadas para cada evento, pero por ahora no dude en llamar a la Sra. Garza o la Sra. Romero para obtener más detalles.

Finalmente, y lo más importante, en este tiempo de Cuaresma hemos pedido a nuestros alumnos que reflexionen sobre la renovación personal y comunitaria, ya que nos lleva al misterio pascual de la muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo. Mientras nos preparamos para celebrar la resurrección de Jesús, haremos bien en reflexionar sobre la exhortación de san Pablo a los gálatas: “No nos cansemos de hacer el bien, porque a su tiempo segaremos nuestra mies, si no damos arriba. Así que, mientras tengamos oportunidad, hagamos bien a todos” (Gálatas 6:9-10). Como comunidad de CRD, seguimos comprometidos a hacer el bien, difundir el amor y renovar nuestra fe a través del don de servir a los demás.

Que esta Pascua sea bendecida para ti y tu familia.

We recently welcomed Mr. Turner as our new Alumni Advisor. Mr. Turner spent the last two years teaching and before that he coached high school and youth rugby in New Orleans for several years. Mr. Turner also taught English in China for a summer and worked with Confucius Institute to promote international exchange Program.
 
Mr. Turner will be advising and supporting our students once they become CRD alumni and serve as the main point of contact of our alumni. Although he will be off campus a lot, he will still work with current students, helping them with guidance and understanding of the transition process out of CRD and into their chosen college or university. 
 
Mr. Turner is a New Orleans Native and is very happy to be a part of the CRD family. Stop by the College Guidance Office and welcome Mr. Turner to our CRD family
 
Recientemente le dimos la bienvenida al Sr. Turner como nuestro nuevo Consejero de Alumnos. El Sr. Turner pasó los últimos dos años como maestro y antes de eso fue entrenador de rugby juvenil y de secundaria en New Orleans durante varios años. El Sr. Turner también enseñó inglés en China durante un verano y trabajó con el Confucius Institute para promover el Programa de intercambio internacional.
 
El Sr. Turner asesorará y apoyará a nuestros estudiantes una vez que se gradúen de CRD y servirá como el principal punto de contacto. Aunque estará mucho tiempo fuera del campus, seguirá trabajando con los estudiantes actuales, ayudándolos con orientación y comprensión del proceso de transición fuera de CRD y en su colegio o universidad elegida.
 
El Sr. Turner es nativo de New Orleans y está muy feliz de ser parte de la familia CRD. Pasen por la Oficina de Orientación Universitaria a dar la bienvenida al Sr. Turner a nuestra familia de CRD.
 

Shoutout to Ms. Lazor for inviting our speaker and Mr. Rodgers for teaching is about electrical engineering. If you were not able to come and would like an extra circuit packet let Ms. Estrada know. The next engineering meeting will be on April 22nd doing a chemical engineering activity. See you then.

Gracias a la Sra. Lazor por invitar a nuestro orador y al Sr. Rodgers por enseñar sobre ingeniería eléctrica. Si no pudo venir y desea un paquete de circuito adicional, hágaselo saber a la Sra. The Counseling Department would like to send a big thank you and appreciation for our first ever intern, Mattison Medelline. Mattison is currently in graduate school pursuing her master’s degree in Social Work. In total, Mattison has served over 480 hours at CRD and will continue on with her education. Best of luck, Mattison! You are forever apart of our familia.
