Dear CRD Students and Families,
This week I would like to highlight our Folklorico Fire Dance Team. The mission of the team is to help each of our dancers develop their culture and embrace it through the therapeutic benefits of the Traditional Latin/Folkloric dance, while building self-esteem, confidence, creativity, and self-discipline.
This year the team dancers are:
Natalia Estrada- 10th grade
Guadalupe Hurtado- 10th grade
Eymi Pina- 10th grade
Yudeli Sanchez- 10th grade
Emmah Calvo-9th grade
Marissa Rosales- 9th grade
We celebrate with our students and with Mr. Rosales their recent accomplishment. On November 20th, the CRD Folklorico Fire Dance Team placed first and second place at the 4th Annual Folklorico Competition in Fort Worth.
Please support our students dancers by cheering them on at these upcoming events:
- Friday, December, 10th: Virgin Mary Performance at CRD, Community Time.
- Saturday, December 11th: CRD Ballet Folklorico Fire Team (Special Guest Artist) at Anita N. Martinez Recreation Center, for Ballet Hispanic of the Arts Academy Recital
- Tuesday, December 14th: CRD Board Meeting 4-5:30 pm. at CRD
- Friday and Saturday, January 21th-22th- Mesquite Performing Arts Center, Frida Production Show.
- Saturday, February 26, 2022- DFW Dance Championship Competition- Duncanville Convention Center.
- Saturday and March 25-26, 2022- National Championship Competition- The University of North Texas in Denton, Tx.

Estimados estudiantes y familias de CRD:
Esta semana me gustaría destacar a nuestro Equipo de Danza de Folklórico. La misión del equipo es ayudar a cada uno de nuestros bailarines a desarrollar su cultura y abrazarla a través de los beneficios terapéuticos de la danza tradicional latina / folclórica, mientras se construye la autoestima, la confianza, la creatividad y la autodisciplina.

Annual MLK Day On of Service | Día de Servicio de MLK Anual
This January, we will continue with our annual MLK Day On of Service. On January 14, all students, faculty, and staff will volunteer at various service sites around Dallas. It is important that the students dress ready to work! This work will include cleaning, picking up trash, organizing food pantries, putting together shelves, etc.
Information:
8:00AM Mass with Bishop Kelly–Students must report to the gym by this time.
9:00AM Depart to Sites
12:00PM Return to CRD for lunch
1:00PM-2:00PM Release for the day*
* The students location will determine what time the students will arrive at CRD.
CRD Shuttles will run on the regular schedule.
Dress code:
Friday dress down. Students may get dirty, so dress accordingly.
No holes or rips in jeans.
No slides or sandals, students must wear closed-toed shoes.

The Chosen One Advent Reflections | El Elegido Reflexiones de Adviento
Week 2: Frodo Baggins, from Lord of the Rings, was a weak hobbit that saved the world. Let’s be honest, had Gandalf not given him a mission, given him means of protection, and continued to aid him from afar or close, he would not have completed his mission. However, no matter how hard it became or how close he was to failing the mission time and time again, Gandalf knew and believed that Frodo was the Hobbit for the job, for this mission.
To be clear, we are Frodo in this situation. We are the weak ones who need the Lord for mission, protection, aid, and guidance. Even when we are unsure of why we are here or what we are doing all this for, there is a God who has not forgotten you, no matter how far away we may pull ourselves from him. His desire and belief in us does not falter, even when our confidence in ourselves does.
St. Paul leaves us with encouraging words in the second reading.
“I am confident of this, the one who began the good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
It is important to note that it is not YOU St. Paul has confidence in, sorry. It is in the one who started the good work in you. When we think about the people who have confidence in us, how often do we think about God? The one who created you, designed you, gave you all your gifts, talents, strengths, also allowed you to fall short in areas that we call our weaknesses. This God did not just give you these things so that you can have them. He gave them to you to complete a mission. He has confidence in the mission you were created for.
As we head into the second week of Advent, let us ask ourselves, where in my life do I need to remember God’s confidence?
Semana 2: Frodo Bolsón, de El señor de los anillos, era un hobbit débil que salvó al mundo. Seamos honestos, si Gandalf no le hubiera dado una misión, no le hubiera dado medios de protección y hubiera continuado ayudándolo desde lejos o de cerca, no habría completado su misión. Sin embargo, no importa cuán difícil se haya vuelto o cuán cerca esté de fallar la misión una y otra vez, Gandalf sabía y creía que Frodo era el Hobbit para el trabajo, para esta misión.

Es importante notar que no eres tú en quien San Pablo tiene confianza, lo siento. Está en quien inició el buen trabajo en ti. Cuando pensamos en las personas que confían en nosotros, ¿con qué frecuencia pensamos en Dios? El que te creó, te diseñó, te dio todos tus dones, talentos, fortalezas, también te permitió fallar en áreas que llamamos nuestras debilidades. Este Dios no solo te dio estas cosas para que puedas tenerlas. Te los dio para completar una misión. Tiene confianza en la misión para la que fuiste creado.
Al entrar en la segunda semana de Adviento, preguntémonos, ¿en qué parte de mi vida necesito recordar la confianza de Dios?
Raise Awareness | Crear Conciencia
The holiday season is here and at Cristo Rey we are so excited that our students are getting time to unwind and celebrate the season with their families and we know you all are too. We also know that for some, the holidays can be stressful or overwhelming so the CRD counseling team would like to help raise awareness for the holiday blues and provide you with resources that might be helpful during our time apart. We hope you all enjoy your well-deserved break.
