Dear CRD Students and Families,
As we prepare for Christmas, we recall that Advent is a time of hope, compassion, and kindness, as we await the coming of Jesus. During this time, it is important to take a moment to reflect and give thanks for the many blessings bestowed upon us, but also to pray for those members of our school community and families that may be facing challenges. Please join me in saying a loving prayer for our entire CRD community.
The birth of Jesus signifies a new beginning for all of us. A time for renewed hope, peace, love, and new beginnings. On behalf of the faculty and staff at Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep, I would like to wish you and your family a peaceful Christmas and a New Year blessed with health and happiness.
A reminder that the first day of school for our students is Wednesday, January 5th, 2022. This will be a workday for freshmen. Senior pictures will take place on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022.
May the gifts of peace, love, and happiness find you all during this most blessed season of Christmas.

Mientras nos preparamos para la Navidad, recordamos que el Adviento es un tiempo de esperanza, compasión y bondad, mientras esperamos la venida de Jesús. Durante este tiempo, es importante tomarse un momento para reflexionar y dar gracias por las muchas bendiciones que se nos han otorgado, pero también para orar por aquellos miembros de nuestra comunidad escolar y familias que puedan estar enfrentando desafíos. Únase a mí para decir una oración amorosa por toda nuestra comunidad CRD.
El nacimiento de Jesús significa un nuevo comienzo para todos nosotros. Un tiempo para renovar la esperanza, la paz, el amor y nuevos comienzos. The McCombs Summer High School Programs are free, six-day experiences focused on business and leadership that offer rising junior and senior high school students the chance to learn and interact with McCombs students, faculty, and corporate representatives.
Outstanding African-American, Latino and Native American students, first-generation students, and students who have overcome social or economic hardship are strongly encouraged to apply. However, all students are welcome to apply.

This January, we will continue with our annual MLK Day On of Service. On January 14, all students, faculty, and staff will volunteer at various service sites around Dallas. It is important that the students dress ready to work! This work will include cleaning, picking up trash, organizing food pantries, putting together shelves, etc.
Information:
8:00AM Mass with Bishop Kelly–Students must report to the gym by this time.
9:00AM Depart to Sites
12:00PM Return to CRD for lunch
1:00PM-2:00PM Release for the day*
* The students location will determine what time the students will arrive at CRD.
CRD Shuttles will run on the regular schedule.
Dress code:
Friday dress down. Students may get dirty, so dress accordingly.
No holes or rips in jeans.
No slides or sandals, students must wear closed-toed shoes.

Week 3: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, is about four children trying to keep themselves entertained during WWII and a lion who has to save them. These four children are Susan, Lucy, Peter, and Edmund. While playing hide and seek, they discover a hidden wardrobe that transports them to a new land. In this land, there is a plague and everyone is waiting for the return of Aslan, who would save all of them!
Unfortunately, while waiting, they are betrayed by Edmund. The Winter Witch has demanded Edmund’s life for his treasury. In his place, Aslan offers himself to be sacrificed instead of Edmund. The Winter Witch thought she was being cruel and clever by sacrificing Aslan on a sacred table. Instead, because Aslan chose not to fight back and willingly sacrificed himself for another, he was brought back to life. When he came back to life, he was able to defeat the Winter Queen once and for all!
Sound familiar? It should, and St. Paul in his letter to the Hebrews reminds us of this. “…we have been consecrated through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.” To be consecrated is to be set aside or set apart for the sacred. By Aslan dying for Edmund, he declared him sacred, important, and should not be killed despite his treachery. Jesus coming into the world does the same for us. In his death, his willing death, Jesus sets us apart to become sacred. His death had nothing to do with us, but everything to do for us. As sacred individuals, let us prepare our hearts for the one who is responsible for this.
Let us prepare our hearts for Emmanual, Lord on High. As we close out our third week of Advent, let us ask ourselves: What in my life do I need Jesus to make sacred? Let’s add these prayers to the consecration table this Sunday as we celebrate the fourth week and the coming of our Savior!
Semana 3: El león, la bruja y el armario, trata sobre cuatro niños que intentan entretenerse durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y un león que tiene que salvarlos. Estos cuatro niños son Susan, Lucy, Peter y Edmund. Mientras juegan al escondite, descubren un armario oculto que los transporta a una nueva tierra. En esta tierra, hay una plaga y todos esperan el regreso de Aslan, ¡quien los salvaría a todos!
Desafortunadamente, mientras esperan, son traicionados por Edmund. La Bruja del Invierno ha exigido la vida de Edmunds por su tesoro. Ser consagrado es ser apartado o apartado para lo sagrado. Al morir Aslan por Edmund, lo declaró sagrado, importante y no debería ser asesinado a pesar de su traición. Jesús que viene al mundo hace lo mismo por nosotros. En su muerte, su muerte voluntaria, Jesús nos aparta para convertirnos en sagrados. Su muerte no tuvo nada que ver con nosotros, sino mucho que hacer por nosotros. Como individuos sagrados, preparemos nuestro corazón para el responsable de esto.
Preparemos nuestros corazones para Emmanuel. Al cerrar nuestra tercera semana de Adviento, preguntémonos: ¿Qué necesito en mi vida que Jesús haga sagrado? ¡Agreguemos estas oraciones a la mesa de consagración este domingo mientras celebramos la cuarta semana y la venida de nuestro Salvador!
The holiday season is here and at Cristo Rey we are so excited that our students are getting time to unwind and celebrate the season with their families and we know you all are too. We also know that for some, the holidays can be stressful or overwhelming so the CRD counseling team would like to help raise awareness for the holiday blues and provide you with resources that might be helpful during our time apart. We hope you all enjoy your well-deserved break.
