Dear CRD Students and Families,
Blessings on this New Year to you and your families. May the gift of peace, joy, and togetherness reign over your homes throughout the year.
This Friday, January 13th, 2023, is a DAY of SERVICE at CRD. There is no school or CWSP, but students and staff will be participating in a multitude of service projects throughout the Dallas area and at school. A reminder that on Monday, January 16th we will not have school in observance of Martin Luther King Day. As we start the calendar year and second semester of this school year, let us pause to reflect on our acts of service, kindness, and love towards one another.
On February 4th, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr., preached “The Drum Major Instinct” from the pulpit of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Ironically, two months before his assassination on April 4th, 1968, he told his congregation what he would like said at his funeral: “I’d like for somebody to say that day that Martin Luther King, Jr., tried to love somebody”. This message of love resonates true today as we try to embrace the principles of community and service at CRD.
Today, the CRD Community comes together for a Day of Service. Our students, teachers, and staff will work alongside several organizations to lend a helping hand. While Dr. King believed the Beloved Community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action. Our call to action should be an act of daily remembrance as we consider ways in which we volunteer to improve our communities.
Parents/Students, these daily acts of service are part of what we already do and believe here at CRD; helping a neighbor who needs a ride, cooking a meal for an elderly parent or family member, volunteering at church, or picking up trash in our communities. Thank you for loving somebody, thanking you for responding to the call to action, and thank you for your simple, daily acts of kindness.

Estimados Estudiantes y Familias de CRD,
Bendiciones en este Nuevo Año para ustedes y sus familias. Que el don de la paz, la alegría y la unión reine en vuestros hogares durante todo el año.
Este viernes 13 de enero de 2023 es un DÍA de SERVICIO en CRD. No hay escuela ni CWSP, pero los estudiantes y el personal participarán en una multitud de proyectos de servicio en toda el área de Dallas y en la escuela. Un recordatorio de que el lunes 16 de enero no tendremos clases en conmemoración del Día de Martin Luther King. Al comenzar el año calendario y el segundo semestre de este año escolar, hagamos una pausa para reflexionar sobre nuestros actos de servicio, bondad y amor mutuo.
El 4 de febrero de 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr., predicó “The Drum Major Instinct” desde el púlpito de la Iglesia Bautista Ebenezer. Irónicamente, dos meses antes de su asesinato el 4 de abril de 1968, le dijo a su congregación lo que le gustaría que dijeran en su funeral: “Me gustaría que alguien dijera ese día que Martin Luther King, Jr., trató de amar a alguien”. . Este mensaje de amor resuena verdadero hoy cuando tratamos de abrazar los principios de comunidad y servicio en CRD.
Hoy, la Comunidad CRD se reúne para un Día de Servicio. Nuestros estudiantes, maestros y personal trabajarán junto con varias organizaciones para ayudar. Si bien el Dr. King creía que la Comunidad Amada era posible, reconoció y luchó por un cambio sistémico. Su ejemplo es nuestro llamado a la acción. Nuestro llamado a la acción debe ser un acto de recuerdo diario mientras consideramos formas en las que nos ofrecemos como voluntarios para mejorar nuestras comunidades.
Padres/Estudiantes, estos actos de servicio diarios son parte de lo que ya hacemos y creemos aquí en CRD; ayudar a un vecino que necesita transporte, preparar una comida para un padre o familiar anciano, ser voluntario en la iglesia o recoger basura en nuestras comunidades. Gracias por amar a alguien, gracias por responder al llamado a la acción y gracias por sus sencillos actos diarios de bondad.

Korina will serve as Technology Support Specialist for CRD. She will help maintain the students’ laptops in working conditions and assists students and staff to utilize the technology resources on campus. Korina has a passion for learning and enjoys helping others. She also enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her family
Korina se desempeñará como especialista en soporte tecnológico para CRD. Ella ayudará a mantener las computadoras portátiles de los estudiantes en condiciones de trabajo y ayudará a los estudiantes y al personal a utilizar los recursos tecnológicos en el campus. A Korina le apasiona aprender y disfruta ayudar a los demás. También le gusta leer, hacer jardinería y pasar tiempo con su familia.
Ms. Ashley Jackson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in both Texas and California. Ashley will serve as a Student and Family Counselor in the Mental Health Counseling Department at CRD. In this role, Ashley works to support students and their families on their journey to social and emotional health.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University in New York and obtained her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling from California Baptist University. Ashley has several years of experience working with at-risk youth, foster youth, human trafficking survivors, domestic violence survivors, school aged and incarcerated consumers. Ashley has a heart to serve and equip the next generation through professional counseling.

La Sra. Ashley Jackson es una Terapeuta Matrimonial y Familiar (LMFT) en Texas y California. Ashley se desempeñará como Consejera de Estudiantes y Familias en el Departamento de Consejería de Salud Mental en CRD. Ashley trabaja para apoyar a los estudiantes y sus familias en su viaje hacia la salud social y emocional.
Recibió su Licenciatura en Ciencias en Justicia Criminal de la Universidad de St. John en Nueva York y obtuvo su Maestría en Psicología de Consejería con especialización en Terapia Matrimonial y Familiar y Consejería Clínica Profesional de la Universidad Bautista de California. Ashley tiene varios años de experiencia trabajando con jóvenes en riesgo, jóvenes en foster care, sobrevivientes de trafico de personas, sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica, consumidores en edad escolar y encarcelados. Ashley tiene un corazón para servir y equipar a la próxima generación a través de asesoramiento profesional.

Juniors, starting Saturday, February 4th you will begin SAT Prep at Cristo Rey Dallas. You will receive instruction on the best test-taking strategies and what to expect on the SAT exam. H.E.L.P. (Hope.Encourage.Love.Protect) and the City of Dallas have partnered to host the 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on Monday, January 16, 2023. The Parade will start at the intersection of Holmes Street and MLK, Jr. Blvd. at 10:00 a.m., and proceed approximately one mile down Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd ending at Fair Park. The parade will feature approximately 250 entries from various community organizations, church groups, youth groups, nonprofit organizations, band/drill teams, colorful floats, and much more. Our Cristo Rey Cheer team will be participating, so please go and support!
H.E.L.P. (Hope.Encourage.Love.Protect) y la ciudad de Dallas se asociaron para organizar el Desfile Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2023 el lunes 16 de enero de 2023. El Desfile comenzará en la intersección de Holmes Street y MLK, Jr. Blvd. a las 10:00 a. m., y avance aproximadamente una milla por Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd hasta Fair Park. El desfile contará con aproximadamente 250 entradas de varias organizaciones comunitarias, grupos de iglesias, grupos de jóvenes, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, equipos de bandas/ejercicios, coloridas carrozas y mucho más.
