Dear CRD Students and Families,
Last Friday, March 4th during Community Time we had a “family meeting” with our students. We felt it was important to address our entire community and have a conversation about the recent instances of racial and homophobic slurs on campus.
We want to be perfectly clear, there is absolutely no place for racial and homophobic slurs at CRD.
At our “family meeting” we defined a slur as an insulting, offensive, or degrading remark based on a person’s identity, such as their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Slurs originate from people in power using language to make a marginalized group feel as if they do not have the intrinsic human dignity and worth that was given to them by God. Whether about race, ethnicity, religion, or sexuality, each slur has a long, complicated history in being used to ensure that minority groups feel degraded, less than, and oftentimes not even human. We cannot deny the ways slurs have been used to marginalize us and our ancestors who have come before us because of their race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.
The following words or phrases need to be removed from our collective vocabulary immediately:
- The n-word, whether it is directed at a person or not
- Slurs targeting Latino/Hispanic people, whether it is directed at a person or not
- Homophobic and gay slurs
- Any slur or remark that would degrade someone because of their identity
We acknowledge that there has been a failure on the part of the adults at CRD to effectively address the use of slurs on a community level over the past several years and to create a safe space where all are welcome. We need to take responsibility for that and correct that failure.
As a school community, we need to be honest about the fact that hurtful language has been used frequently in the hallways, in the cafeteria, at after school practices, and even while doing small group work in classrooms. Slurs have even been found carved into picnic tables on our campus and in social media posts written by our students.
We ask that students report to an adult they trust anything they see or hear on campus that does not align with our core beliefs at CRD. As Principal, once these instances are reported they will be investigated immediately, and a parent meeting will be scheduled. If the investigation proves that there was a direct violation to our CRD values, there will be immediate consequences including dismissal from CRD.
Finally, in the coming weeks we will set up focus group conversations with our students to discuss topics surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion on our campus.

As we head into spring break and we continue Lenten season, I ask that we all pray for peace for our world, our nation, our state, and our community at CRD.

El pasado viernes 4 de marzo durante Community Time tuvimos una “reunión familiar” con nuestros alumnos. Sentimos que era importante dirigirnos a toda nuestra comunidad y tener una conversación sobre los casos recientes de insultos raciales y homofóbicos en el campus.
Queremos ser perfectamente claros, no hay absolutamente ningún lugar para insultos raciales y homofóbicos en CRD.
En nuestra “reunión familiar”, definimos un insulto como un comentario insultante, ofensivo o degradante basado en la identidad de una persona, como su raza, etnia, religión, género u orientación sexual. Los insultos se originan en personas en el poder que usan el lenguaje para hacer sentir a un grupo marginado como si no tuvieran la dignidad humana intrínseca y el valor que Dios les dio. Ya sea sobre raza, etnia, religión o sexualidad, cada insulto tiene una larga y complicada historia de uso para garantizar que los grupos minoritarios se sientan degradados, menos que y, a menudo, ni siquiera humanos. No podemos negar las formas en que se han utilizado los insultos para marginarnos a nosotros y a nuestros antepasados que nos han precedido debido a su raza, etnia, religión u orientación sexual.
Las siguientes palabras o frases deben eliminarse de nuestro vocabulario colectivo de inmediato:
- La palabra n, ya sea que esté dirigida a una persona o no

Reconocemos que ha habido una falla por parte de los adultos en CRD para abordar de manera efectiva el uso de insultos a nivel comunitario durante los últimos años y para crear un espacio seguro donde todos sean bienvenidos. Tenemos que asumir la responsabilidad de eso y corregir ese fracaso.
Como comunidad escolar, debemos ser honestos sobre el hecho de que el lenguaje hiriente se ha utilizado con frecuencia en los pasillos, en la cafetería, en las prácticas después de la escuela e incluso al trabajar en grupos pequeños en las clases. Incluso se han encontrado insultos tallados en mesas de picnic en nuestro campus y en publicaciones en las redes sociales escritas por nuestros estudiantes.
Pedimos que los estudiantes le informen a un adulto en quien confíen cualquier cosa que vean o escuchen en el campus que no se alinee con nuestras creencias fundamentales en CRD. Como directora, una vez que se informen estos casos, se investigarán de inmediato y se programará una reunión con los padres. Si la investigación demuestra que hubo una violación directa de nuestros valores de CRD, habrá consecuencias inmediatas, incluido el despido de CRD.
Finalmente, en las próximas semanas estableceremos conversaciones de grupos focales con nuestros estudiantes para discutir temas relacionados con la diversidad, la equidad y la inclusión en nuestro campus.

The Class of 2022 gathered for their senior retreat earlier this week. Thank you to Mr. Ideker, Ms. Murillo and all the staff and faculty volunteers that helped during the three days of the retreat. We hope the seniors enjoyed their last retreat and send of before graduation

Peter is a try hard. Let’s think about it, he is the first to jump out of the boat, promises Jesus big promises, is always the first to respond. In this Sunday’s Gospel, Peter is no different. He was amazed by what he saw and didn’t think much before he started talking. This is Peter, he sees something incredible and he has to be a part of it. He has to throw himself into it. His whole self.
Do we allow ourselves to see God as incredible enough to want to be a part of what is happening?
This particular story makes me think of Captain Steve Rogers. He knew there was a war, he knew there was something incredible going on, and he gave everything to be a part of what was happening. So much so, that they selected him to give a special secrete serum too. This serum is what took him from Stever Rogers to Captain America. Think about it, if you’ve seen Captain America, Steve had heart, grit, and determination, but he lacked everything else that mattered when getting into a fight. Things like strength, stealth, the ability to hold his own in a fight. Peter, we see, has heart, grit, and determination. It is in moments like these, where Peter gave just a little more, that allowed Jesus to make him the Captain of the disciples. Much like Captain America was the first avenger, Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic Church.
Something to Reflect On: How can I throw myself fully into who God is calling me to be? Pick one gift that God has given you and use it to glorify Him this week, thus allowing you to die to yourself for the glory of God.
Pedro echa muchas ganas. Pensemos, él es el primero en saltar de la barca, promete Jesús grandes promesas, siempre es el primero en responder. En el Evangelio de este domingo, Pedro no es diferente. Estaba asombrado por lo que vio y no pensó mucho antes de comenzar a hablar. Este es Peter, ve algo increíble y tiene que ser parte de ello. Tiene que lanzarse a ello. Todo su ser.
¿Nos permitimos ver a Dios tan increíble como para querer ser parte de lo que está sucediendo?
Esta historia en particular me hace pensar en el capitán Steve Rogers. Sabía que había una guerra, sabía que estaba sucediendo algo increíble y lo dio todo para ser parte de lo que estaba sucediendo. Tanto es así, que lo seleccionaron para darle un suero secreto especial. Este sirume es lo que lo llevó de Stever Rogers al Capitán América. Piénselo, si ha visto al Capitán América, Steve tenía corazón, valor y determinación, pero carecía de todo lo demás que importaba cuando se peleaba. Cosas como la fuerza, el sigilo, la capacidad de defenderse en una pelea.
Pedro, vemos, tiene corazón, valor y determinación. Es en momentos como estos, donde Pedro dio un poco más, que le permitió a Jesús convertirlo en el Capitán de los discípulos. Al igual que el Capitán América fue el primer Avenger, Peter fue el primer Papa de la Iglesia Católica. Algo para Reflexionar: ¿Cómo puedo lanzarme completamente a lo que Dios me está llamando a ser? Elige un regalo que Dios te ha dado y utilízalo para glorificarlo esta semana, permitiéndote así morir a ti mismo para la gloria de Dios.
Third Sunday Fig Tree
In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable about the fig tree. The owner of the orchard was displeased with the way the fig tree hadn’t produced fruit in three years. The owner believes it’s a waste of soil and time. The gardener stops the owner and asks if he can take care of it for one more year. He will personally attend to it, and if it doesn’t fertilize, then it can be cut down.
Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, the Red Witch, was a villain at the beginning of Avengers: Age of Ultron. She was on the side opposite of the Avengers. She saw them as destroyers of life. However, two things happen. One, Wanda comes to see the Avengers as the “good guys” and two, the Avengers decide to invest in Wanda. So much so that she is a large part of their team in the last two Avengers movies, Infinity Wars and End Game.
It would have been easy to label Wanda as “bad” and put her on the villain list, but they knew that wasn’t true. There was something good in Wanda, she just needed to be poured into with love, discipline, care, and compassion.
Jesus does this for us. God is the owner of the garden and Jesus is the gardener. Jesus comes in and tells God, let me pour my love, discipline, care, and compassion into this tree (you) and I will show you what fruit it can bear. Jesus never sees us as being too much or too far gone. He knows if he pours himself, his life into you, you will bear fruit. You could be what makes the difference in the fight against good and evil, in today’s world.
Something to reflect on: Am I allowing Jesus to pour his very life into me? Am I willing to help make a difference in the fight against good and evil in today’s world?
Tercer domingo Árbol de higo
En el Evangelio, Jesús cuenta la parábola de la higuera. El dueño de la huerta estaba disgustado por la forma en que la higuera no había dado frutos hace tres años. El propietario cree que es una pérdida de suelo y tiempo. El jardinero detiene al dueño y le pregunta si puede cuidarlo por un año más. Él lo atenderá personalmente, y si no fertiliza, entonces puede ser cortado.
Wanda, la Bruja Escarlata, la Bruja Roja, fue una villana al comienzo de Avengers: Age of Ultron. Ella estaba en el lado opuesto de los Avengers. Ella los vio como destructores de la vida. Sin embargo, suceden dos cosas. Uno, Wanda llega a ver a los Vengadores como los “buenos” y dos, los Vengadores deciden invertir en Wanda. Él sabe que si se derrama a sí mismo, su vida en ti, darás fruto. Tú podrías ser lo que marque la diferencia en la lucha contra el bien y el mal, en el mundo de hoy.
Algo para reflexionar: ¿Estoy permitiendo que Jesús derrame su propia vida en mí? ¿Estoy dispuesto a ayudar a marcar la diferencia en la lucha contra el bien y el mal en el mundo de hoy?

On February 1, 2022, re-enrollment for next year will open for all current families. We ask that all families (9th – 11th grade) complete re-enrollment no later than March 30, 2022.
