Please mark your calendars for our Parent Teacher Conferences scheduled for Wednesday, October 27th (ninth and tenth grades) and Thursday, October 28th (eleventh and twelfth grades) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

We are genuinely excited to welcome our parents back to campus to meet our faculty and staff!  Research has proven that when parents and teachers work together, everyone benefits.  Our students tend to earn higher grades, perform better on tests, attend school more regularly, have better behavior, and show more positive attitudes toward themselves and toward school.

Below are some edited suggestions from the Child Mind Institute to keep in mind as you prepare to meet with your child’s CRD teachers.

Preparing for the Parent-Teacher Conference

•       Talk with your child before the conference. Find out if your child has any specific concerns about schoolwork, relationships with classmates or any other concerns that you might want to discuss with the teacher.

•       Review the CRD Parent/Student Handbook (HERE). Refer to the expectations for academics, behavior, and attendance so that you are clear on school policy and can discuss concerns in these areas with the teacher.

•       Be familiar with your child’s homework assignments and grades by visiting the Infinite Campus portal. Is the work getting done? Does your child seem to understand the assignments?

•       Prepare a list of questions you want to ask your child’s teacher. Is my child meeting expectations for learning and behavior? How has my child performed on daily class assignments, on tests, on homework assignments? If my child is struggling in any area, what has been tried to improve performance? What are my child’s strengths?

•       Be ready to collaborate.  Assume the teacher has your child’s best interests in mind and respond calmly and tactfully.  Indicate that you are most concerned with solving the problem and helping your child succeed. Offer to meet further to discuss the problem and to work out a solution.

•       Listen carefully. It is perfectly acceptable to take notes. This is particularly helpful if one parent or other involved relative cannot attend. It can also help you remember details so that you can ask questions later.

•       Do not be afraid to ask questions. If you do not understand something or feel your concerns are not being addressed, then ask the teacher. Ask what test scores mean and what the results mean for your child. Stop and ask for explanation of unfamiliar terms or programs. Not understanding can quickly lead to misunderstanding.

Preparación para la conferencia de padres y maestros

• Familiaricese con las tareas y las calificaciones de su hijo visitando el portal Infinite Campus. ¿Se está haciendo el trabajo? ¿Su hijo parece entender las asignaciones?

• Prepare una lista de preguntas que quiera hacerle al maestro de su hijo. ¿Está cumpliendo mi hijo con las expectativas de aprendizaje y comportamiento? ¿Cómo se ha desempeñado mi hijo en las tareas diarias de la clase, en los exámenes, en las tareas escolares? Si mi hijo tiene dificultades en cualquier área, ¿qué se ha intentado para mejorar el rendimiento? ¿Cuáles son las fortalezas de mi hijo?

• Esté preparado para colaborar. Suponga que el maestro tiene en mente los mejores intereses de su hijo y responda con calma y tacto. Indique que está más preocupado por resolver el problema y ayudar a su hijo a tener éxito. Ofrezca reunirse más para discutir el problema y encontrar una solución.

• Escucha cuidadosamente. Es perfectamente aceptable tomar notas. Esto es particularmente útil si uno de los padres u otro familiar involucrado no puede asistir. También puede ayudarlo a recordar detalles para que pueda hacer preguntas más tarde.

• No tenga miedo de hacer preguntas. Si no entiende algo o siente que sus preocupaciones no están siendo atendidas, pregúntele al maestro. Pregunte qué significan los puntajes de las pruebas y qué significan los resultados para su hijo. Deténgase y pida una explicación de términos o programas desconocidos. No entender puede llevar rápidamente a un malentendido.
