Dear CRD Families and Students,
This week we want to celebrate the work of our student leaders. Our CRD Student Government Association (SGA) serves as a bridge between the administration, faculty, staff, and students. The Student Government Association works to strengthen communication, effectively address student concerns, and promote a culture of academic excellence at CRD. They have drafted an agenda for this year with campus initiatives that support student learning and campus life. Some of these initiatives are noted below:
- The Student Government brought a vending machine to campus this year that has an array of healthy snacks to keep students fueled throughout the day.
- The group is soliciting feedback on school policies from their peers in the form of monthly class meetings and bringing that feedback to administration.
- Assisting the Student Activities Board with Homecoming and Prom initiatives.
- Brainstorming school culture initiatives as we bring back the staples of our CRD traditions even with the Covid-19 pandemic.
I recently met with the group and was impressed by their poise, advocacy, and due diligence. Among the issues that we will be collaborating on are: student parking, student attire (including hoodies), and increase of FLEX time for academic work.

Esta semana queremos celebrar el trabajo de nuestros líderes estudiantiles. Nuestra Asociación de Gobierno Estudiantil (SGA) de CRD sirve como puente entre la administración, la facultad, el personal y los estudiantes. Howdy Ya’ll – The State Fair of Texas is here and CRD Fair Day is on Friday October 15th. Students will receive their Fair Day Tickets next week.

The CRD Ballet Folklorico had their first performance of the year earlier this week. They did an amazing job at the Mundo Latino event hosted at the Women’s Museum at the state fair.

Juan’s supervisor says, “Juan is a great student worker. He needs little to no direction, comes right in and gets straight to his duties. A pleasure to have him in our department!”

Fall Athletics are dominating this season! On Saturday Cross Country Varsity Boys won first place, with 4 people coming in the top 15 runners. The girls won second place with 3 girls coming in the top 15 runners. Also, last Thursday, Varsity Volleyball had a big win! They beat Bishop Dunne in 5 sets. The team played well as a team and helped keep each other motivated throughout the match. Keep it up Fire!
