Position Summary

The Intervention Specialist plays an integral role by collaborating with students, parents, faculty, and staff to ensure a learning environment that is aligned with the school’s academic mission and vision. The primary duties of the Intervention Specialist include student cognitive and non-cognitive skills development and progress monitoring of students with academic and social-emotional needs. This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential job responsibilities; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the Academic Support Program to aid struggling students including students coming with previous IEPs and 504s.
  • With the Principal, oversee the implementation of a Student Success Team that progress monitors student academic and social-emotional needs for Tier 3 students.
  • Manage and work with staff for the purpose of identifying students who are not making adequate academic progress and design appropriate interventions.
  • Create quarterly reports on Tier 3 student academic progress and appropriate interventions.
  • Lead and participate in grade-level meetings to analyze student progress, identify priority learning needs for individual students, and discuss optimal strategies for maximizing each student’s growth.
  • Create an array of academic skills resources to discuss with students at individual and group meetings.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Executive Function initiative.
  • Collaborate with the Family Partnership Program in creating an array of academic skills resources for parents/guardians of students in the academic support program.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Students, track student academic infractions due to missed deadlines, including playing an intermediary role supporting both students and teachers for Level I and II infractions.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Students, meet with families of students in need of support.
  • Attend Grade Level Meetings to provide technical support on interventions to teachers.
  • Teach a Freshman Seminar once a week to help support student reading and math skills.
  • Maintain direct communication with CWSP and counseling departments regarding students’ areas for growth at school, work, and home.
  • Collaborate with CWSP and counseling departments in the implementation of programs to support students struggling at school, home and/or work.
  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data.
  • Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • K-12 Texas Teacher’s Certification in a content area (SPED or Math preferred).
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of teaching experience.
  • Spanish fluency preferred but not required (speaking, reading, and writing)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor with all students.
  • Thorough understanding of and the ability to implement a variety of effective teaching methods.
  • Thorough understanding of policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including IDEA, IEPs, and 504.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Candidates must be adept at building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students.
